Der Tanz in den Mai ist die moderne Form eines alten Brauches und feiert den Beginn des Sommers. In vorchristlicher Zeit war es ein Mondfest, das in der Nacht des Vollmondes zwischen der Frühjahrstagundnachtgleiche und der Sommer-Sonnenwende gefeiert wurde. Seit der Heiligsprechung der Äbtissin Walburga um 870 n. Chr. wird stattdessen am Vorabend ihres Namensfestes am 1. Mai gefeiert.
Vor einigen Jahren noch war der Mauerpark zur Walpurgisnacht ein beliebter Treffpunkt für „junge Krieger” aus ganz Deutschland, die gewaltsame Auseinandersetzungen mit der Ordnung und ihren Hütern suchten. Seit über 15 Jahren bemüht sich die Initiative „Liebet Eure Feinde" unterstützt von den Freunden des Mauerparks e.V., dem Bezirksamt, der Kulturgemeinschaft Mauerpark, zahlreichen Künstlern und Anwohnern, um eine friedliche und kreative Walpurgisnacht im Mauerpark.
About Walpurgis Night in Mauerpark
Dancing in the May is the modern form of an ancient custom and celebrates the start of summer. In pre-Christian times, it was a lunar festival, which was celebrated the night of the full moon roughly halfway between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Since the canonisation of Abbess Walburga around 870 AD, the celebrations have taken place each year on 30 April, the eve of her feast day.
Some years ago Mauerpark became a popular meeting place on Walpurgis Night for “young rioters” who came from all over Germany to pick a fight with the forces of law and order. For the last 15 years, the organisation Liebet Eure Feinde (Love your Enemy) – with the support of Freunde des Mauerparks e.V., the local authority, Kulturgemeinschaft Mauerpark, numerous artists and residents – have worked to make a Walpurgis Night celebration that is creative and peaceful.

Friedvolle Walpurgisnacht
Die Friedvolle Walpurgisnacht ruft zum ausgelassenen und friedlichen Feiern in den Mauerpark, mit Tanz in den Mai, mit Lagerfeuer, Feuerartistik, Seifenblasen und Musik.
Der Tanz in den Mai ist die moderne und friedliche Form des alten Brauches und lautet letztendlich den Sommer ein.
Seit 20 Jahren feiern die Initiative „Liebet Eure Feinde“ und die Freunde des Mauerparks e.V., unterstützt vom Bezirksamt Pankow, Grün Berlin, der Kulturgemeinschaft Mauerpark und zahlreichen Nachbarn, eine friedliche und kreative Walpurgisnacht im Mauerpark.
Im Mauerpark feiern wir zusammen ein Fest, das wir ehrenamtlich und unkommerziell gestalten. Unser Motto: Mitmachen.
Anwohner, Besucher und Kreative gestalten gemeinsam einen feierlichen Abend: Mit Lagerfeuer, Musik, Feuer-Jonglage, Seifenblasen und einem Tanz in den Mai.

Tradition des Miteinanders
Seit vielen Jahren feiern die Initiative „Liebet Eure Feinde“ und die Freunde des Mauerparks e. V. unterstützt vom Bezirksamt Pankow, der Grün Berlin und der Kulturgemeinschaft Mauerpark eine friedliche und kreative Walpurgisnacht im Mauerpark.
Tanz in den 1. Mai
Nun schon zum 18. Mal lädt die Friedvolle Walpurgisnacht zum unkommerziellen Tanz in den Mai ein: Ein großes Lagerfeuer wärmt die Menschen, während Feuershows kunstvolle Flammen in den Nachthimmel zeichnen, Seifenblasen bunt im Wind schweben und Musik von Drum Circle bis DJ-Set zum Mittanzen einlädt.
Friedenskreis für alle
Gegen 19 Uhr versammeln wir uns im interkulturellen Friedenskreis, um gemeinsam ein Zeichen für Frieden in Berlin, Europa und der ganzen Welt zu setzen – offen für jede und jeden.
Ehrenamtliches Engagement
Dieses Fest lebt vom Engagement der Anwohner*innen, Besucher*innen sowie Kreativen: Ob am Lagerfeuer, bei der Betreuung der Gäste und Künstler*innen oder am Seifenblasen machen – jede helfende Hand trägt zum familiären, unkommerziellen Charakter bei. Das zentrale Lagerfeuer wäre ohne die Unterstützung des Bezirksamts Pankow und Grün Berlin nicht möglich.
Künstler und Projekte
Mit dabei sind unter anderem Fr. Doktor Zirkus, das Freizeithaus am Mauerpark, die Folkwiese, der Mauerpark Drum Circle, Immanuel Buddhi Angelo, FlowArts e. V., Peter-Pat Seifenblasen, DAN K. Sigurd, Dafffke, Tales for the Tillerman, 12Volt, Rolling Lion Hi-Fi & Guests, Tina Tischler, kling und klang, Yannick Weineck, Balkhausen, ChéRebel, Gray Contrast, Alemiko, Gabriel Werres und viele weitere kreative Köpfe.
Zeitlicher Ablauf
Unser Fest startet um 16 Uhr endet nach Mitternacht. Ab 1 Uhr bitten wir alle, besonders leise zu sein, um den Anwohnerinnen und Anwohnern die wohlverdiente Nachtruhe zu ermöglichen.
Gegenseitige Rücksicht
Bitte begegnet dem Feuer und den Feuerkünstler*innen mit Respekt und achtet auf den nötigen Sicherheitsabstand. Unser Fest geht bis nach Mitternacht. Bitte nehmt ab 1:00 Uhr verstärkt Rücksicht auf die Anwohnenden und gönnt ihnen ihre verdiente Nachtruhe.

Peaceful Walpurgis Night
Come and dance in the May in Mauerpark, where the celebrations will be both peaceful and full of fun and include a campfire, fire artists, soap bubbles and music.
Dancing in the May is the modern and peaceful form of an old custom and ultimately heralds the start of summer.
For 20 years, two grassroots organisations Liebet Eure Feinde (love your enemies) and Freunde des Mauerparks e.V, supported by Pankow borough council, Grün berlin, the Kulturgemeinschaft Mauerpark and numerous neighbours, have been celebrating a peaceful and creative Walpurgis Night in Mauerpark.
We will once more be working together on a voluntary basis to organise these celebrations. They have no commercial purpose. Come and join in!
Local residents, visitors and creatives have come together to organise an evening of fun: with campfires, music, fire jugglers, soap bubbles and dancing in May.

Tradition of Togetherness
For many years, the Initiative “Love Your Enemies” and the Friends of Mauerpark e. V., supported by the Pankow District Office, Grün Berlin and the Mauerpark Cultural Association, have been celebrating a peaceful and creative Walpurgis Night in the Mauerpark.
Dance into May Day
Now for the 18th time, the Peaceful Walpurgis Night invites you to a non-commercial dance into May: a large campfire warms everyone gathered, while fire performances trace artistic flames across the night sky, soap bubbles drift colorfully on the breeze, and music — from the Drum Circle to DJ sets — beckons all to join in.
Peace Circle for All
Around 7 p.m., we come together in an intercultural peace circle to unite in a call for peace in Berlin, across Europe and throughout the world — open to everyone.
Volunteer Engagement
This festival thrives on the dedication of local residents, visitors and creatives: whether tending the campfire, supporting our guests and artists or helping with soap bubbles —every helping hand adds to the warm, non-commercial atmosphere. The central campfire itself would not be possible without the support of the Pankow District Office and Grün Berlin..

Schedule
Our celebration begins at 4 p.m. and runs past midnight. From 1 a.m. onward, we kindly ask everyone to keep noise levels down so that local residents can enjoy a well-deserved rest.
Mutual Consideration
Please treat the fire and our fire artists with respect by maintaining a safe distance. The festivities carry on until after midnight, and starting at 1:00 a.m., we ask you to be especially considerate of those living nearby and allow them their deserved peace.
